What to Expect During a Window Replacement Home Visit

What to Expect From a Home Visit for Window Replacement

A window consultation should feel informed. Clear. Productive.

It should not feel like psychological endurance training.

Most Appointments Take About an Hour

Unless someone refuses to leave.

A typical in-home window consultation averages around 60 minutes. Enough time to evaluate your existing windows, discuss goals, review options, and answer questions.

Some companies train their sales teams that an appointment should never be less than 60 minutes and often stretches to two or even three hours. Not because the project requires it. Because fatigue increases compliance.

If you feel like the meeting cannot end without a signature, you are no longer in a consultation. You are in a closing environment.

The “Today Only” Discount

Five to thirty five percent. If you decide right now.

It is common to see dramatic discounts presented during the appointment. Five percent. Fifteen percent. Sometimes thirty percent or more. But only if you “choose to move forward today.”

If you need to think about it, the discount disappears.

That pricing structure tells you something important. Either the original price was inflated, or the margin allows for dramatic swings depending on emotional timing.

We do not structure pricing around pressure. We try to kill the salesman. It needs to be economical to be enjoyable.

Close or Cops

Yes, that is real training language.

Some large national companies coach sales staff to either secure the contract or stay until the homeowner becomes uncomfortable enough to escalate. The phrase “Close or Cops” exists in certain sales cultures.

That approach may increase short term conversion rates. It does not build trust.

A home visit should feel collaborative, not confrontational.

Warranties: The Word “Limited” Does Heavy Lifting

Every lifetime warranty is limited.

Most companies advertise a lifetime warranty. Legally, they can always say that as long as the word “limited” appears in front of it.

The fine print is where you need to look.

Common exclusions can include:

  • Labor coverage limited to two years
  • Excessive heat exposure
  • Improper installation
  • Aftermarket window tint
  • Adhesive based security systems
  • Lack of documented maintenance

Some manufacturers require periodic operation of the window to maintain warranty eligibility. The burden of maintaining service logs often falls on the homeowner. The use and care manual governs coverage, even though it is rarely emphasized during the sale.

Accidental glass breakage coverage is another differentiator. Many warranties exclude it entirely. Some include it. The difference matters.

Performance Numbers Should Be Verified

U-Value and SHGC are not guesswork.

U-Values and Solar Heat Gain Coefficients are determined when the window is manufactured and tested. They are not estimated on the spot.

Be cautious of blanket performance claims without NFRC certification data tied to the exact configuration being proposed.

Similarly, when a local company claims they “manufacture” their own windows, understand what real manufacturing looks like. True window production facilities span acres. The glass partner we use runs a conveyor system over 500 feet long just to apply Low-E coatings, consisting of eleven micro-thin layers including three layers of silver.

Assembly is not the same as manufacturing.

What a Proper Solara Visit Looks Like

Clarity first. Pressure never.

Your Solara Pro will walk through your home, evaluate your current windows, discuss performance goals, and outline options based on your needs and budget.

There is no today-only pricing. No manufactured urgency. Just a clear project outline.

If you decide to move forward, a dedicated carpenter’s measure is scheduled. This is not a tape measure and a guess. Finished openings and rough openings are assessed. Necessary materials are evaluated. Measurements are verified within 1/16th of an inch.

That measure then undergoes peer review with senior builders and fulfillment managers to ensure final form and function align exactly with what was discussed.

The goal is not to win the appointment. The goal is to execute the project correctly.

A Home Visit Should Feel Different

Because it is your home.

You should feel informed, not cornered.

Confident, not rushed.

And when the appointment ends, you should feel clarity. comfort, and excitement.
